15 Years to Life: The Education of a Painter 11:00 am - 4:30 pm, An Exhibition and Sale of Paintings by David Peikon. David Peikon (born 1958) dreamed of a life as a painter since his early teens but was urged to seek a more secure career path. In 1996, he left the business world to pursue his passion. His landscapes have been described as scenes of serene isolation, always with a reverence for the beauty of nature, particularly scenes of Long Island. Now in his second decade as a painter, his work hangs in private and corporate collections around the world. In addition to 10 shows thus far, he has been featured in numerous publications including American Artist and the New York Times. This show will feature landscapes, figurative and still life paintings that record his life as an artist during this transformative period. 30% of all sales will be donated to Old Westbury Gardens.

Spring Bulb Sale 10:00 am - 5:00 pm Bulbs are useful for adding color to spring borders. Tulips come in all shades, from dark purple to white, and bloom at a time of year when many plants offer muted colors. Other bulbs, such as snowdrops and scillas, are some of the earliest flowering plants in the garden, brightening up the short days of very early spring. For the first time, the Gardens will offer for purchase many of the bulbs selected by its horticultural staff that will bloom in the Gardens next spring.
Lecture: Bulb Basics 10:30 pm Bright spring-flowering bulbs are a welcome sight after the cold, short days of winter. Bulbs make a fine display planted in containers or borders, especially daffodils, snowdrops and tulips. Planted while they are dormant, it usually takes just a few months for bulbs to grow and bloom. They really are the buried treasure of the garden. And they are one of the easiest and most rewarding garden plants to grow. The cultivation techniques used to grow bulbs are quite simple, but, because they can be grown in containers, borders and also naturalized in grass or under trees, there are several methods for planting. Learn the basics of bulb planting at a demonstration workshop led by the Gardens’ Director of Horticulture, Maura McGoldrick-Brush. Registration and pre-payment required, please call (516) 333-0048 Ext. 301 or register online HERE.  $15; $5 Members.
