DESCRIPTION:Cafe in the Woods\, Music\, Seasonal/Special Events\n\n\n\n\nCelebrate 250 years of American independence with an evening of music inspired by the American experience when Poetica Musica presents We the People: USA at 250. \n\n\n\nFeaturing Poetica Musica artists Barry Crawford (flute)\, Oren Fader (guitar)\, William Anderson (guitar)\, Molly Morkoski (piano)\, and Eleanor Valkenburg (mezzo-soprano)\, the program showcases works by some of America’s most celebrated composers\, including Aaron Copland\, Cole Porter\, Scott Joplin\, William Bolcom\, Katherine Hoover\, and Robert Beaser. \n\n\n\nHighlights include Beaser’s Mountain Songs for flute and guitar\, selections from Copland’s vocal repertoire\, piano rags by Joplin and Bolcom\, and Hoover’s evocative solo flute work Kokopelli. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT THE ARTISTS \n\n\n\n\n\nWILLIAM ANDERSON is a guitarist and composer who began performing chamber music at the Tanglewood Festival at age 19. He has appeared with the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Players\, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center\, and New York Philharmonic\, and performs internationally at guitar and contemporary music festivals. \n\n\n\nHe is founder of the Cygnus Ensemble\, which has toured internationally and served as ensemble-in-residence at the Library of Congress. With Cygnus\, he co-created Sounding Beckett at Classic Stage Company in New York. \n\n\n\nAnderson is Artistic Director of the Roger Shapiro Fund and Marsyas Productions and teaches guitar at Sarah Lawrence College and Queens College. His works are recorded on Bridge Records and Furious Artisans. \n\n\n\n\n\nWilliam Anderson\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBARRY J. CRAWFORD is a flutist performing with Poetica Musica\, Ensemble Pi\, and Sedna Winds. He appears regularly with leading New York ensembles including American Ballet Theatre\, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra\, Argento\, Quintet of the Americas\, and others\, and has performed at festivals such as Mostly Mozart\, Lincoln Center Festival\, Spoleto (Italy)\, and the Pablo Casals Festival. \n\n\n\nInternationally\, he has performed across Europe\, the Middle East\, Central Asia\, and the Caribbean\, and as a soloist in major venues including Boston Symphony Hall\, Kimmel Center\, Davies Symphony Hall\, and Symphony Center Chicago. He is Professor of Flute and director of flute ensemble at SUNY Fredonia and has recorded for Albany Records. \n\n\n\n\n\nBarry J. Crawford\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOREN FADER is a classical and electric guitarist who has performed throughout the United States\, Europe\, and Asia\, including concerto appearances with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra and the New Jersey and Omaha Symphonies. He has collaborated with ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic\, Met Chamber Ensemble\, ICE\, Talea Ensemble\, and the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. \n\n\n\nHe is a faculty member at the Manhattan School of Music and directs classical guitar programs at Montclair State University and SUNY Purchase. He holds degrees from SUNY Purchase and Florida State University. \n\n\n\n\n\nOren Fader\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMOLLY MORKOSKI is a pianist who performs internationally as a soloist and collaborative artist\, with appearances at Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center\, Merkin Hall\, (Le) Poisson Rouge\, and major venues in Europe\, the Caribbean\, and Japan. She has worked with ensembles including the New York Philharmonic Ensembles\, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra\, Brooklyn Chamber Music Society\, and leading string quartets. \n\n\n\nShe is founder of SoundScore\, a digital network supporting contemporary composers and performers. A Fulbright Scholar\, she holds degrees from UNC Chapel Hill\, Indiana University\, and Stony Brook University\, and is Professor at CUNY Lehman College. \n\n\n\n\n\nMolly Morkoski\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nELEANOR VALKENBURG is a soprano and Director of Poetica Musica\, recognized internationally as a chamber musician and soloist. She has performed at major festivals and venues including the Bergen Festival\, Istanbul International Music Festival\, Sarajevo Festival\, Library of Congress\, Victoria and Albert Museum\, and St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London. \n\n\n\nShe has toured in more than 60 countries across four continents and has taught master classes throughout Europe\, the Middle East\, and Asia.
