You’ll tour the many rooms that were “behind the scenes” to create the formal dining experiences of the social peers of the Phippses in the early 20th century. You’ll go along the corridors to the butler’s pantry and silver cleaning room then descend the 17 steps to the kitchen\, scullery\, and wine storage rooms located on the ground floor. \n\n\n\nNEW! As part of the tour\, visitors will now walk through the stately Dining Room and get closer than ever before to the art and historic furnishings that define this grand space—experiencing it not from behind a rope and stanchions\, but as it was meant to be seen. \n\n\n\nThis tour lasts a little over one hour and because of its physical demands\, it is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility or children under 8 years of age. DESCRIPTION:Seasonal/Special Events\, Tours\n\n\n\n\nExperience a world premiere staged reading of a new\, transhistorical reimagining of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s The Secret Garden\, written by Long Island playwright Aly Kantor. The piece will be presented in the red ballroom of Westbury House with full costumes and immersive audio by an ensemble of six local performers (and one bird). Stay afterward for a reception and chat with the playwright\, director\, and cast.  \n\n\n\nSynopsis: Long Island\, 1952. Ornery\, Shakespeare-loving Mary Lennox is twenty-something and\, somehow\, an old maid. When her reluctance to marry is diagnosed as a nervous condition\, her great-aunt ships her off to Misselthwaite\, a shuttered Long Island tuberculosis sanatorium\, newly reopened by the physician who treated her mother there twenty years ago. SUMMARY:Secrets of the Service Wing Tour
DESCRIPTION:Seasonal/Special Events\, Tours\n\n\n\n\nTickets for this tour include access to Westbury House and the gardens. All tickets are non-refundable. \n\n\n\nFor many years visitors to Westbury House asked what was beyond the first-floor corridor. Now they can go beyond the door and discover “secrets of the service wing.” \n\n\n\nIn this 60-minute guided tour you’ll be introduced to the intensive labor required to create the lifestyle experienced by the Phipps and their guests. You’ll tour the many rooms that were “behind the scenes” to create the formal dining experiences of the social peers of the Phippses in the early 20th century. You’ll go along the corridors to the butler’s pantry and silver cleaning room then descend the 17 steps to the kitchen\, scullery\, and wine storage rooms located on the ground floor. \n\n\n\nNEW! As part of the tour\, visitors will now walk through the stately Dining Room and get closer than ever before to the art and historic furnishings that define this grand space—experiencing it not from behind a rope and stanchions\, but as it was meant to be seen. \n\n\n\nThis tour lasts a little over one hour and because of its physical demands\, it is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility or children under 8 years of age.
