SUMMARY:Secrets of the Service Wing Tour
DESCRIPTION:Tours\n\n\n\n\nTickets for this tour include access to Westbury House and the gardens. All tickets are non-refundable. \n\n\n\nFor many years visitors to Westbury House asked what was beyond the first-floor corridor. Now they can go beyond the door and discover “secrets of the service wing.” \n\n\n\nIn this 60-minute guided tour you’ll be introduced to the intensive labor required to create the lifestyle experienced by the Phipps and their guests. You’ll tour the many rooms that were “behind the scenes” to create the formal dining experiences of the social peers of the Phippses in the early 20th century. You’ll go along the corridors to the butler’s pantry and silver cleaning room then descend the 17 steps to the kitchen\, scullery\, and wine storage rooms located on the ground floor. \n\n\n\nNEW for 2026! As part of the tour\, visitors will now walk through the stately Dining Room and get closer than ever before to the art and historic furnishings that define this grand space—experiencing it not from behind a rope and stanchions\, but as it was meant to be seen. \n\n\n\nThis tour lasts a little over one hour and because of its physical demands\, it is not recommended for individuals with limited mobility or children under 8 years of age. This tour requires descending a narrow staircase of 17 steps down to the ground floor/basement\, so no person (including children and infants) may be lifted or carried throughout the tour. \n\n\n\n\n\npurchase tickets\n\n\n\nBECOME A MEMBER

SUMMARY:Old Westbury Gardens: Days of Grace on Long Island: A Conversation with Clive Aslet and Dylan Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Tours\n\n\n\n\nJoin award-winning editor and writer Clive Aslet and celebrated international photographer Dylan Thomas for an engaging conversation about the creative process behind their newest publication\, Old Westbury Gardens: Days of Grace on Long Island (Triglyph Books\, 2026). Moderated by noted interior designer Thammanoune Kannalikham\, the discussion will explore the stories\, research\, and visual imagination that shaped this richly illustrated tribute to one of Long Island’s most beloved estates. \n\n\n\nOld Westbury Gardens: Days of Grace on Long Island brings the house and its history vividly to life through archival images and lush contemporary photography. The book honors the legacy of the estate Jay Phipps built to woo his English love\, Dita Grace\, after promising to recreate the world of elegance\, gardens\, and dogs she had known in Sussex. She said “Yes”—and the rest is Old Westbury Gardens. \n\n\n\nThe evening begins with sparkling wine and light hors d’oeuvres\, followed by the program discussion. After the program\, Aslet and Thomas will sign copies of their new book\, which will be available for purchase. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSPEAKERS: \n\n\n\n\n\nClive Aslet is an award-winning architectural historian and journalist\, widely recognized as a leading authority on Britain and its way of life. Deeply familiar with every aspect of publishing\, he has written more than thirty books\, including The Last Country Houses\, The American Country House\, and The Story of the Country House for Yale University Press. In 2014\, he published his first novel\, The Birdcage\, set in Salonika during the First World War. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDylan Thomas is one of Britain’s foremost photographers of people and interiors. After beginning his career as an assistant to Lord Snowdon\, he developed an outstanding reputation for detailed\, technically complex work across a range of visual media and for a distinguished roster of notable clients. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThammanoune Kannalikham is a New York–based interior designer whose firm\, Kannalikham Designs LLC\, focuses primarily on residential work. Passionate about historic precedent\, historic properties\, architecture\, and decorative arts\, Ms. Kannalikham advances connoisseurship among younger generations through her dedication to old-world traditions\, quality craftsmanship\, and historic preservation. \n\n\n\n\n\nClive Aslet\n\n\n\nDylan Thomas\n\n\n\nThammanoune Kannalikham\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTickets & Information\n\n\n\nFee: $65 per person; $100 per couple; $25 Streaming link \n\n\n\nThis program is hosted and sponsored by the Friends of Old Westbury Gardens and the Institute of Classical Architecture & Art. \n\n\n\n\n\npurchase tickets\n\n\n\n\n\nBECOME A MEMBER
