Based on the The Gilded Age Cookbook: Recipes and Stories from America's Golden Era, learn the backstory of Thanksgiving Dinner to Twelfth Night celebrations, plum pudding and sugarplums, from author, researcher and historian Becky Libourel Diamond. You'll also learn why celery was on well-to-do holiday tables—it even had its own special vase! Ms. Diamond will bring treats from the cookbook to sample. Copies of the cookbook will also be available for purchase.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER:

Becky Libourel Diamond is a food writer, librarian, and research historian. Her latest book, The Gilded Age Cookbook, blends Gilded Age details and celebrity stories with historic menus and recipes updated for modern kitchens. She is also the author of The Thousand Dollar Dinner and Mrs. Goodfellow: The Story of America’s First Cooking School. She lives in Yardley, Pennsylvania.

TIME: Presentation begins at 7pm, doors open at 6:30pm

TICKETS: $25, members receive a 20% discount (NOTE: OWG MEMBERS HAVE PRIORITY ACCESS TO TICKETS FOR THIS EVENT. NON-MEMBERS WILL BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AVAILABLE TICKETS STARTING 11/1.)

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Before and after the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity for self-guided tours of the Service Wing, including the kitchen.

  • Following the presentation, light refreshments, featuring holiday treats, will be served. 

  • There will be a book signing following the presentation.
