In-Person Education Programs

Old Westbury Gardens offers a wide variety of guided programs designed for K-12 students and educators to explore the Gardens in a safe and engaging way.

One hour guided tours are designed in conjunction with NYS Curriculum Standards and allow the property to act as an extension of a teacher’s classroom to create concrete counterparts to traditional school lessons in Natural Science, Art, Social Science, English and History.


  • Trips must be booked in advance and are available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with 10:00 am and Noon start times.
  • Double program days can also be accommodated.
  • Current in-person education group tour maximum is 25 students per educator plus teachers and chaperones.information or to arrange a visit.

Early Learners: Pre-K-Grade 1

What types of educational programs are offered at Old Westbury Gardens?

Old Westbury Gardens provides a diverse array of guided programs for K–12 students, aligning with New York State Curriculum Standards. These one-hour tours transform the Gardens into an extension of the classroom, offering concrete experiences in subjects like Natural Science, Art, Social Science, English, and History. Additionally, specialized programs are available for Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts, designed to meet official badge and loop requirements in an engaging manner. ​

How can schools or scout groups schedule a visit, and what are the associated costs?

Educational trips must be booked in advance and are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with start times at 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Each program costs $10.00 per student, with teachers and aides admitted free of charge. Additional chaperones are charged $10.00 each. A minimum fee of $100.00 is required to book a date. Currently, the maximum group size for in-person education tours is 25 students per educator, plus teachers and chaperones. This ensures a safe and engaging experience for all participants. ​

Are there any virtual or at-home learning resources available?

Yes, Old Westbury Gardens offers “Backyard Learning,” a monthly online feature that highlights aspects of their educational programming. It includes articles and activities designed to foster a deeper connection with nature, even when not physically at the Gardens. ​

What summer programs are available for children?

The Gardens host four themed summer camps for children aged 5–9:​

Artful Explorers Camp: Focuses on art inspired by nature, including drawing, painting, printmaking, and clay.​

Inventive Explorers Camp: A STEM camp where young scientists engage in experiments and nature-inspired creations.​

Time Traveling Explorers Camp: A history camp that brings the past to life through hands-on experiences related to different historical eras.​

Each camp runs for a week, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at a cost of $300 per child. Members receive a 20% discount.
