ABOUT THE PRESENTER:
Celia Ipiotis is the creator, producer and host of the award-winning humanities PBS series, EYE ON DANCE. Honored with a "Lifetime Achievement" award in 2024, Ipiotis began her professional career as a dancer, choreographer, director and videographer. Singled out for her expertise, Ipiotis lectures and served on college faculties including Rutgers University, Hunter College, Harvard, Ohio State University, New York University, Marymount Manhattan, Aegina Arts Center; sits on local, state, and national arts panels; advised WNET's "Dance in America" and led arts forums at major cultural institutions like the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Lincoln Center, NYC Ballet, NY Foundation for the Arts, Guggenheim Works & Process and Harlem Stage.
Ipiotis is a member of the Columbia University Dance Scholars Seminars and served as a Research Fellow at Jacob’s Pillow. Ipiotis also produces public lectures coupled with EYE ON DANCE episodes for the general public, educational, and cultural institutions. Ipiotis heads the team raising tax-deductible funds for the restoration of the EYE ON DANCE archive for future generations. www.eyeondance.org.
EYE ON DANCE
Designated an "Irreplaceable National Dance Treasure" by the Dance Heritage Coalition, EYE ON DANCE aired weekly on PBS from 1981 - 2004. The single largest primary source archives on dance, EOD pinned performance footage to lively conversations on a vast array of topics stretching from historical dance to ballet, social dance and hip hop. EOD places dance Icons next to iconoclasts like Alvin Ailey, Katherine Dunham, Merce Cunningham, Paul Taylor, Gregory Hines, Robert Duvall, Edward Villella, Maya Plisetskaya, Tina Ramirez, Alicia Alonso, Arthur Mitchell, Garth Fagan, Max Roach, Alwin Nikolais, Hanya Holm, Geoffrey Holder, Jacques d'Amboise and on.
A prominent scholarly resource, EOD is prized for its deeply researched historical content featuring racially, ethnically and culturally mixed inter-generational artists who built America's dance legacy.
Created by Celia Ipiotis and Jeff Bush, EYE ON DANCE was broadcast on PBS from 1981-2004. EOD was produced by the nonprofit arts organization, ARC Video, and holds all copyright to the library.
