The Collyweston slate roof on Westbury House is the only one of its kind outside of the UK. Uniqueness, however, comes at a price—both financially and logistically. Add in a pandemic and political upheaval, and the most ambitious restoration program undertaken by Old Westbury Gardens needed to overcome some significant hurdles. Lorraine Gilligan, Director of Preservation at Old Westbury Gardens, will explain how the need for a new roof came about, the search for materials when none seemed available, and the herculean efforts put forth by a remarkable team of experts.
THIS IS THE SECOND OF THREE LECTURES IN THE OLD WESTBURY GARDENS 2023 SPRING LECTURE SERIES.
