Join us for an enchanting evening of chamber music as Old Westbury Gardens presents The Enchantment of Strings on Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 8 pm in the intimate and elegant Red Ballroom. The Poetica Musica Quartet will perform a captivating program featuring works by Ravel, Mendelssohn, and Dvořák.
The ensemble includes Eric Wyrick, violin; Eugene Moye, cello; and guest artists Janey Choi, violin; and Michael Roth, viola.
The program features String Quartet No. 12 in F Major, Op. 96 (“American”) by Antonín Dvořák; String Quartet in F Major, M.35 by Maurice Ravel; and String Quartet No. 1 in E-flat Major, Op. 12 by Felix Mendelssohn.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
ERIC WYRICK, violinist, is Concertmaster of the New Jersey Symphony and a former member of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. As a soloist with the NJS, he has performed the Schumann, Strauss, and Busoni violin concertos, and has led performances of Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. His collaborations include contemporary composers Darryl Kubian and Steve Mackey, and a revival of Princeton’s Edward T. Cone’s Violin Concerto. During the COVID period, he produced several solo and NJSO-presented recordings for streaming.
JANEY CHOI, violin, made her Carnegie Hall recital debut as a winner of the Artists International Auditions. A recipient of numerous honors, including First Prize in the Canadian Music Competition and the Chalmers Performing Arts Grant, she has appeared at festivals including Mostly Mozart, Norfolk, Taos, Bar Harbor, Spoleto, Santo Domingo, Santa Fe, and Sarasota.
MICHAEL ROTH, viola, is Associate Concertmaster of the New York City Ballet Orchestra and appears regularly as both a chamber musician and soloist. He performs with the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra and has appeared with the Westchester Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra, and New York Pops. He has served as concertmaster at the Vermont Mozart Festival, Caramoor, and Bard, and has toured internationally with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.
EUGENE MOYE, cello, was described by The New York Times as one of the “foremost cellists of his generation.” He is principal cellist of the Westchester Philharmonic, American Symphony Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, and Opera Orchestra of New York, and has been a member of the New York City Ballet Orchestra since 1972. A core member of Poetica Musica, he also serves as an artistic adviser.
